Bitter Sweetie Dessert Shop Bitter Sweetie
Located in the centre of the main city, on the banks of the Haihe River, Tianjin Italian Style District was originally an Italian concession in the old days, and the district has more than one hundred well-preserved century-old Italian-style buildings. With the advancement of urban renewal and old buildings, these buildings, which once embodied the ideology of capitalism, have been transformed into commercial spaces with modern consumption patterns.
The Bitter Sweetie dessert shop, created by All Design Studio (ADS), is located here. Respecting the local history, the designers have preserved the flavour of the Italian architecture with a light intervention, and injected an artistic touch into the bakery space with the colours of desserts and the shapes of paintings, bringing diners a pleasurable experience that goes beyond the desserts themselves and touches their hearts.
The red-brick arched building where Bitter Sweetie is located extends the overall tone of the space from the original style of the building, resulting in the integration of the external appearance with the city's historical landscape, and the intervention of a painter in the current space, from the Renaissance wall paintings to the deconstructivism originated from France, to re-adjust the symbiotic relationship between the art and the commercial space in the details.
The colour scheme of the interior space starts from the colour of dessert, the pistachio-coloured door panels and the red-brick building present a sense of harmony under the contrasting temperament, the former is lively and jumpy, the latter is calm and simple, jointly interpreting the interesting story of colour and architecture.
The tablecloth drawn by the designer and hand-sewn by the owner's aunt and her best friend is also ingenious and interesting, with artistic and poetic lines and soft colours jumping around, presenting the sweetness of baking and the beauty of life.
Inspired by contemporary art, a natural wood cabinet is placed in the centre area, wrapping around the load-bearing pillars and eliminating their abruptness, while a fitting mirror and display shelves are embedded in the design, following the example of a domestic wardrobe, turning it into an area that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Located in the corner of this historic Italian building, Bitter Sweetie intertwines dessert and art in a colourful design language, creating a beautiful and charming Italian-style living room for dessert chefs returning from Europe.
