R&F Apartment
This is a spiritual home for both people and cats.
The permanent residents of the house are the homeowners and their two cats, with occasional visits from their parents. The couple wanted a flexible furniture layout, without sofas or TVs, and prioritized the design of cat pathways.
The house is a single level with a small courtyard, but the space is limited and the many doors in the living room make the area prone to clutter.
We cleverly concealed the doorways of the living room with three arched doors, enhancing the flow and adding more defined functional areas.
Door 1: Separates work and home life, hiding the two entrances to the foyer and kitchen. To the left, it serves as a dust barrier for the foyer, and to the right, it separates the kitchen.
Door 2: Connects the indoor space to the outdoor area. The arched doorway extends the view outside, creating an open and pleasant dining atmosphere.
Door 3: Explores temporary and long-term uses. When Door 3 is opened, the left side reveals a small secondary bedroom where a sofa unfolds into a bed. A sliding door and roller blinds divide the two bedrooms. The right side of Door 3 hides a partial door to the bathroom.
Door 4: Is a cat door, exploring shared space and pathways for both humans and cats.
As children, we often dreamed of having doors like Doraemon’s Anywhere Door that could transport us to different places with each opening. This home turns that whimsical dream into reality.
