Tata Bowls Restaurant - The Flowing Theatre Tata Bowls
Tata Bowls Restaurant is located on the ground floor of a street-facing office building at Changning International IM in Shanghai. In this project, Shang Interior Architects aimed to make the flowing scenes of daily life a design element, integrate into the urban neighborhood with a symbiotic and friendly approach, and use simple materials to add layers to the space. The highly irregular structure of the original building led us to focus on a "theater" concept, translating the scale of the neighborhood into the interior to alleviate the negative physical sensations caused by the irregular structure. The fan-shaped layout opens outward, allowing dramatic scenes to be projected both inside and outside the restaurant. The only "hard partition" in the open space is a wooden block on the golden hemp stone floor at the entrance, which acts as an "architectural block" that divides the circulation into "entry" and "exit," forming the unique circular flow that gives the space a sense of endless movement. The change in materials visually guides the transition between functional areas. Shang Interior Architects sought to create a seemingly "heterogeneous" space within urban life, fostering new dialogues in the process.
